The Art of Working with Children
In September, we organized a workshop for our tuition programme’s volunteer mentors. Titled “The Art of Working with Children”, the workshop by conducted Cerebral aims to equip volunteers to better understand the younger service users assigned to them. Volunteers learnt the characteristics of children at each of their developmental stages.
With the knowledge, volunteer mentors with no prior parenting experience may find it easier to understand and plan their (training) delivery. The workshop also allowed volunteers to gain insight on how to build rapport and trust with their students. Mentors also learnt to use icebreaker activities to build relationships.
Volunteer Skills Training
In tandem with the March holiday programmes for the children, Loving Heart (Jurong) also conducted a Volunteer Skills Training for our Free Tuition Programme volunteers. The Volunteer Skills Training was aimed at helping the volunteers to discover more about themselves, their strength, values and their passion for volunteering. Beyond self discovery, the session was also a brainstorming session for the tutors, to plan and gather ideas for a possible June holiday programme for our children.
