Sports/Skills, Tuition and Mentoring Programme

Since 2006, our Sports/Skills, Tuition and Mentoring Programme has reached out to many at-risk students across various schools. These students may come from difficult family backgrounds, have character/ behavioral challenges or lack proper engagement after school.

Schools identify these suitable students who then require greater attention and engagement after school. Bukit Batok Secondary School and Jurong Secondary School are currently participating in the programme.

We aim to groom well-rounded individuals who are confident and socially responsible, through these 3 components – sports/skills, mentoring and tuition. Combined, the goal is to develop students holistically – academically, physically, and emotionally. We hope to teach these students about social responsibility in an engaging and light hearted manner.

Sports/Skills

Each school will select a sport/skill based in the interests of the targeted student group. Every year, we gather feedback from students on what they would like to explore in the next year. Sports/skills sessions are conducted by trained professionals within their field of expertise. These sessions provide students a chance to learn additional skills based on their interest. Featured activities are students from Bukit Batok Secondary honing their creativity with arts and crafts.

Tuition

We support students academically through tuition sessions which are conducted by professional and experienced tutors. The tutors provide additional academic support to students who may require additional help to understand concepts taught in class. Tutors also pay extra attention and cater to students who may not be able to keep up with their class during lessons.

Mentoring

The mentoring programme involves trained professionals in the field of mentoring to engage students depending on what their specific needs are. The mentoring sessions aim to emphasize values or mindsets that schools are advocating.

Mentoring sessions include ice-breaker games, group discussions and sharing sessions. The sessions are based on overarching themes that aim to cultivate traits like leadership, good communication and social skills/responsibility.

Ultimately, we hope that students are able to develop social competence and have an enriching experience through fun activities with their peers.
